Re: Last Meeting Next Meeting
Date: January 6, 2010
Congratulations on your outstanding work to date and last night at meeting 8. I was quite impressed by the conscientious and thoughtful work being produced by the work teams and the quality feedback/input and support that came from the broader stakeholder group. The “will-do” spirit has emerged (though it was always there before just lying below the surface) is inspiring to see. Jay County has the opportunity to be a model community for others to aspire to become.
And down the stretch we come! We are at that point of the process where we will begin focusing on implementation details such as big action steps (the major steps that will have to happen regardless of changing circumstances), responsible parties (organizations, entities that must be partners in order for the implementation to be successful), time ranges (a guesstimate of how long it will take to implement - in some cases it may be “ongoing”) and resource options (resource options where money is required - i.e., grants (federal, state, private), in-kind).
We will focus on completing these items at our next meeting - a work session - on January 26. For some groups, you will have to meet in between sessions to ensure that you have all the tasks complete by our final presentation on February 16.
Minor word of caution: When we start focusing on details it will be very easy to make this part of the process more complicated than necessary. With the action steps - brainstorm the steps that need to be taken to implement the strategy…not all the steps, just the big ones that need to done regardless of the situation. With the Broomfield example where they became a county, they had four or five action steps total. Once the steps are brainstormed, then place them into a sequence that makes sense. After that, proceed on to responsible parties, time ranges and resource options.
In the meantime, I will be meeting with Project Chairs Doug Inman and Stephanie Arnold to begin focusing on the “home” of the plan, the implementation structure (to ensure action) and the writing of the final report.
You continue to inspire me with your hard work, mindset and ideas. People often ask me why I am so optimistic. If they had the opportunity to work with people
like all of you, they would be optimistic too.
See you on the 26th at JCHS!
